Since we moved here in June 2016, I have come across so many interesting names. Precious, Courage, Blessing, just to name a few. I often ponder the meaning of the expression, "what's in a name?". Names mean so much more, indeed.
When I went rock climbing for the first time in May 2017, one of the crew who took us to the climbing site was introduced as "Peace Maker". Being a first timer, I honestly thought there was a Peace Maker added to the group for just in case some people get emotional and lose their cool. I later found out that it was actually his real name!
Another interesting name that I bet one can only find in SA is the name Hitler. In Trevor Noah's book "Born A Crime" he told a story about how Hitler is a common name in townships
. I thought he was exaggerating and was making things up. I am a huge fan of Trevor, don't get me wrong, but this one was a bit of a stretch.
Well, two months ago I hired a painter, Cain, who came in with his friend, Hitler!
"Hi, how are you, what's your name?"
"Hitler"
"Oh, nice to meet you Hitler"
Boy, I can tell you the last line didn't come out easy.
Just last week my friend posted on her facebook status that she just met a Nomore. I guess Nomore has a dozen older siblings?
